Prevalence of estrogen receptor α PvuII and XbaI polymorphism in population of Polish postmenopausal women

چکیده
Numerous data indicate that polymorphism of estrogen receptor α (ERα) may predict lipid levels, lipid response to hormone replacement therapy (HRT), myocardial infarction risk, bone fracture risk, bone mineral density (BMD) and changes in BMD over time. In this study we aimed to evaluate distribution of ERα PvuII and XbaI genotypes in population of Polish postmenopausal women qualified to different protocols of HRT. Subject of the study were 64 consecutive postmenopausal women aged from 45 to 65 years (mean 56.6) assigned to HRT. ERα PvuII and XbaI polymorphism was determined by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). The absence of PvuII and XbaI restriction sites were indicated by "P" and "X" and presence by "p" and "x", respectively. PvuII genotype was distributed as follows: PP 17.2% (n=11), Pp 50% (n=32), pp 32.83% (n=21). Frequency of XbaI genotype was: XX 6.25% (n=4), Xx 34.4% (n=22), xx 59.4% (n=38). Four haplotypes with following frequencies were recognized: PX 17.3%, px 47.4%, Px 24.4% and pX 10.9%. Prevalence of estrogen receptor α PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms in Polish women is similar to previously studied population.

متن کاملGenetic Polymorphisms of Estrogen Receptors in Iranian Women with Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease
Estrogen might play an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus type 2. Estrogens inhibit diabetes via distinct mechanisms particularly by reducing both hyperglycemia and plasma insulin levels. Estrogen exerts its physiological effects mainly through estrogen receptors including α and β types. Estrogen receptors are found in many tissues that participate in the pathogenesis of ty...
متن کاملInfluence of Estrogen Receptor α Polymorphisms on Bone Density in Response to Habitual Exercise in Japanese Postmenopausal Women
Estrogen receptor α (ER α) is one of candidate genes for osteoporosis. This study examined the influence of ER α gene, PvuII, and XbaI genotypes on bone density of calcaneus in response to habitual exercise. ER α polymorphisms were detected using PvuII and XbaI restriction enzymes in 316 Japanese postmenopausal women. The bone density was significantly lower in the women carrying PP, pp, or xx ...
متن کاملOsteoporosis and Its Association with Estrogen Receptor-alpha Gene Polymorphism in a Population of Iranian Women Referring to Loghman Hospital
steoporosis is a common disease in which the bones become prone to fracture as a result of loss of bone mineral density (BMD). The estrogen receptor (ER) gene is a candidate gene for osteoporosis. This study assesses the relation between estrogen receptor-α gene polymorphism and osteoporosis in a population of Iranian women. Materials & Methods: In the present study, we investigated 200 preand/...
متن کاملAssociation of Estrogen Receptor α Genes PvuII and XbaI Polymorphisms with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the Inpatient Population of a Hospital in Southern Iran
BACKGROUND Estrogen plays a fundamental role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Very few studies have shown the association between estrogen receptor α (ERα), PvuII and XbaI gene polymorphisms with T2DM in both men and women. We evaluated the hypothesis that PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms of ERα gene may be associated with T2DM in adult. METHODS From spring of 2010 to the f...
